High Sierra Pack Station is a hard hike in the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 9 miles long, with a one-way climb of roughly 675 feet from a low point of about 7,636 feet to a high of about 7,907 feet. It is a natural-surface trail, and horses are allowed. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mammoth Lakes show July highs around 78°F with lows near 49°F, while winter highs sit around 41°F. The trail lies close to several other destinations. Devil's Bathtub Trail and Vermilion Valley Dam Trail are each about a mile away, and Vermillion campground is about 1.4 miles off.
