Convict Lake Campground is a Forest Service lakeside campground in the Mammoth Ranger District of Inyo National Forest, about 4 miles from the community of Whitmore Hot Springs in California. It sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains, with the pristine waters of Convict Lake as its centerpiece. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mammoth Lakes show July highs around 78°F with lows near 49°F, while winter highs stay around 41°F with lows in the teens. The campground makes a natural base for exploring the surrounding area. The Convict Lake Vis and Convict Lake Trail hikes both start within half a mile. Climbers can head to Mt. Morrison, about 1.3 miles away, and McGee Backpacker Campground is roughly 4 miles off.
