Sugar Creek Hiking Trail is a 2-mile out-and-back hike in Arkansas's Ouachita National Forest, within the Cold Springs Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is an easy route with a total elevation gain of about 550 feet for the round trip, which makes it a comfortable outing for a short day on foot. The trail starts at roughly 645 feet and climbs to about 907 feet at its high point before returning. The steepest stretch comes early on, around 0.37 miles in, with a grade of about 30 percent. Because the trail is out and back, the 550-foot gain and loss are each about half the figure for one way. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Booneville run around 73°F in April and 75°F in October, while July and August highs reach about 92°F. Several other routes and waterways sit close by. Sugar Creek Multi-Use Trail is about half a mile away, and Sugar Creek, a canoeing route, is under a mile off. Jack Creek campground is about 1.2 miles away, and Hole in the Ground Mtn. Trail is about 1.3 miles away.
