Teddy Bear Slabs is a climbing area in Arizona's Coronado National Forest, within the Santa Catalina Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the slab is part of a cluster of climbing spots in this corner of the forest, with Rapunzel's Tower, The Nursery and Green Acres (North Face) all about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is a mix of top rope and trad, with five routes in all. The YDS grades run from 5.5 to 5.10, and the top rope routes are the most common. Hey Diddle Diddle, The Crack in the Middle and Humpty Bumpty are both 5.5, while Papa Bear, the hardest of the group, is a 5.10 top rope. Goldirocks and the 3 Bulges is the only trad route at 5.7. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Lemmon Willow Canyon show May highs around 71°F and October highs around 68°F, with lows near 50°F. That station sits about 1,500 feet below the slab, so temperatures on the slab run cooler. For more time on the trail, Bug Springs offers mountain biking about 0.6 mile away, Gordon Hirabayashi Campground is 1.7 miles off, and Rose Canyon Lake is another 1.7 miles. Bug Springs Trail is a hike about 1.5 miles away.
