Owl Rock is a climbing area in Arizona's Coronado National Forest, within the Douglas Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Sunsites weather station run from highs around 70°F in March and 69°F in November to the mid-90s in June and July. That station sits about 700 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures at the rock run cooler. The area has five routes, four of which are traditional. The grades range from 5.5 to 5.12a, with "Give A Hoot" at 5.7+ and "Naked Prey" at 5.12a. The Swain twins first climbed "Give A Hoot" and "Woodsy the Owl" in 2000, and the 1989 team of Chris Henze, Cyrena Goodrich and others did "Nightstalker." Zappa Dome and Batline Dome are climbing areas about 0.1 mile away, and Half Moon Ranch campground is about 0.6 mile off. The Wasteland Approach Trail is about half a mile from the rock.
