Baseline is a 13.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Clifton Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The route rises from about 4,490 feet to about 7,018 feet, with a total elevation gain of 322 feet, and is rated hard. The trail is natural surfaced, and both horses and bikes are allowed. It is not an accessible trail. The most comfortable months are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 75°F and September highs near 79°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 14 and 15. Horse Canyon Trail #36 lies about a mile away. The Grand Enchantment Trail Segment 17: Maple Peak is about 3 miles off, and Buchanan Tank Trail and Webster Spring Trail are each about 3.9 miles away.
