Butte Valley National Grassland

Butte Valley National Grassland is a 19,488-acre expanse of open grassland in northeastern California managed by the Forest Service as multiple-use public land. The landscape offers wide views and a quieter alternative to more heavily visited public lands in the region. Visitors can camp dispersed throughout the grassland, fish in available waters, and explore on foot or horseback. Hunting is permitted in season, and scenic driving provides access to the open terrain. The grassland is accessible year-round, though winter weather can impact road conditions and camping comfort. Spring through fall are the most practical seasons for recreation.
