About Butterflies and Blooms (Doughton Park Picnic Area - Milepost 241)

Be a citizen scientist and help spot and count butterflies as part of the Carolina Butterfly Monitoring Program while also learning about the profusion of blooming wildflowers the butterflies are nectaring on.

After a brief overview of survey protocol and a game that will familiarize participants with the most commonly spotted butterflies in Doughton Park, we’ll do a short .4 mile loop with intensive wildflowers. Participants are welcome to stop there or continue along the 1.25 mile one-way route through the meadows of the picnic area to the end of the picnic area then walk back without the Ranger to the starting point.

Meet at the stone comfort station (first bathroom up the hill on the left) in the Doughton Park Picnic Area. Dress for the weather and sunny open meadows and wear comfortable, sturdy shoes. Bring water, sunscreen, a snack, and binoculars if you have them.

The event will be canceled in the event of rain.
