About Sonora
Sonora was once a residential community in Pinal County, Arizona, situated at roughly 2,293 feet above sea level. Its story ended when the town's population was relocated to nearby Kearny, Arizona, and the entire site was subsequently demolished to allow expansion of the Ray mine.
Today there is nothing left to visit in the traditional sense — the physical community no longer exists, having been cleared away entirely. Travelers curious about the area should understand that Sonora is a vanished place rather than a ruins site with walkable remnants.
