About McDuff
McDuff is a vanished community in Bastrop County, Texas, once positioned along an old stage mail route connecting Bastrop to Austin. Its location placed it roughly eight miles southwest of Elgin, a dozen miles northwest of Bastrop, and about 25 miles east of Austin — a corridor that once saw regular travel between those towns.
Today nothing remains of the town itself. The site corresponds approximately with the junction of Farm to Market Road 969 and Upper Elgin River Road, making it identifiable on a map but unremarkable on the ground. Visitors will find a rural Texas crossroads rather than any standing structures or marked historic features.
