About Comet

Comet is an abandoned silver town sitting roughly twenty miles south-southwest of Helena, Montana, spread across about thirty-five acres in Jefferson County. High Ore Creek bisects the property, naturally dividing the industrial side from the residential quarter that once made up the town proper.

Visitors who make the drive up High Ore Road off Interstate 15 will find a surprisingly substantial set of remains: a standing ore hopper, a large ore processing building, assorted company structures, and a scatter of houses and other private buildings. It is one of the more intact ghost town footprints in the area, offering genuine atmosphere rather than just a historical marker.

Access is by vehicle via High Ore Road. Summer and early fall are the most reliable seasons given Montana's winters, which can make the road impassable. Come prepared for a self-guided exploration — there are no formal visitor facilities on site.
