Winegar Hole Wilderness

Winegar Hole Wilderness is a 10,662-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Wyoming, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape here is primitive and roadless—no motorized travel, mechanized equipment, or mountain bikes are permitted. This is backcountry on foot or horseback only.

The wilderness offers hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and Leave No Trace principles define the experience. Access is limited to trailheads on the perimeter; once inside, you're committed to self-reliance and minimal-impact travel. Summer and early fall are the primary seasons for recreation, though weather and snow can close access at higher elevations during winter months.

As a designated Wilderness Area, Winegar Hole requires visitors to respect core rules: no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel of any kind. Pack out everything you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly. This is untracked, undeveloped country—plan accordingly with map, compass, and experience.
