Upland Island Wilderness

Upland Island Wilderness is a 13,250-acre federally protected wilderness area in Texas managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized setting where solitude and isolation are central to the experience. No roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—this is genuine wilderness where you travel on foot and camp without developed infrastructure.

Visitors should expect rugged terrain and come prepared for self-sufficient backcountry travel.
