Unaka Mountain Wilderness

Unaka Mountain Wilderness is a 4,472-acre federally protected wilderness area in Tennessee, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive setting where motorized travel and mechanized equipment are prohibited. The landscape is characterized by the rugged terrain typical of the region, providing opportunities for solitude and immersion in undeveloped forest.

Visitors should expect a true wilderness experience: no maintained roads penetrate the area, and travel is by foot only. This is a Leave No Trace environment where visitors are responsible for packing out all waste and minimizing impact.
