Tebenkof Bay Wilderness

Tebenkof Bay Wilderness spans 67,023 acres of federally protected backcountry in southeast Alaska, managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the landscape. The wilderness enforces strict rules: no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel of any kind. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles and be entirely self-sufficient.

Access is challenging and typically requires water transport or floatplane charter to reach the wilderness boundary. The Alaska panhandle setting means weather can shift rapidly and conditions are often wet and cool even in summer. This is a destination for experienced backcountry travelers comfortable with isolation, navigation in undeveloped terrain, and the physical demands of off-trail or minimal-trail travel in remote country.
