Stateline Wilderness Area

Stateline Wilderness Area is a 6,954-acre federally protected wilderness in California, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized setting where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

Visitors should understand that this is true wilderness: no roads, motorized vehicles, or mechanized travel are permitted. All travel is on foot, and the landscape demands respect for Leave No Trace principles—pack out everything you pack in, camp only in designated areas where allowed, and tread lightly on the land. Access is backcountry-only, requiring a trailhead approach on foot. Spring through fall offers the most stable conditions for travel, though the specific season depends on elevation and local weather patterns. Winter conditions can make the area difficult or impassable, and summer heat in the California desert requires careful water and supply planning.
