South Egan Range Wilderness Area

South Egan Range Wilderness Area spans 67,409 acres of federally protected backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is a primitive landscape where motors, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—a true non-motorized wilderness open to foot traffic and stock animals only.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the area. Visitors come for solitude and the chance to move through undeveloped terrain on foot, carrying what they need and leaving no trace of their passage. The wilderness rules are strict and real: pack out everything you pack in, camp responsibly away from water sources, and respect the land's protected status.

Access is limited by design. There are no maintained trailheads or developed infrastructure—you enter on foot from surrounding public or private lands. Season matters: winter snow and cold make travel difficult, while spring through fall offer the most reliable conditions for backcountry travel. Come prepared for self-sufficiency; this is not a place for casual day-trippers.
