Silver Peak Wilderness

Silver Peak Wilderness is a 31,441-acre federally protected wilderness area in California, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized environment where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience. No roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—this is genuine wilderness where you'll encounter minimal development and few crowds.

Visitors should expect to follow strict Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp on durable surfaces away from water sources, and travel lightly across the landscape. Water sources exist but should be treated before drinking. Access is typically via trailheads on surrounding national forest land; check with the managing Forest Service office for current conditions, seasonal closures, and any permits required before heading out.
