About Sierra Estrella Wilderness Area

Sierra Estrella Wilderness Area encompasses nearly 15,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a primitive, non-motorized landscape. The area offers hikers and backpackers a genuine wilderness experience where solitude and self-reliance are central to the visit.

This is true wilderness: no roads, no motorized travel, and no mechanized equipment are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot and practice Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp only in designated areas where allowed, and respect the landscape's fragile character. The terrain and conditions require solid preparation and navigation skills.
