Sanhedrin Wilderness

Sanhedrin Wilderness is a 10,666-acre federally protected wilderness area in California, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized environment where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

The wilderness is open to foot travel only. No roads, motorized vehicles, or mechanized travel are permitted—this is true backcountry where you navigate by map and compass and camp in dispersed sites. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and leave the landscape as you found it.

Access is on foot from trailheads on the wilderness perimeter; there are no developed facilities within the area. Conditions vary seasonally, and you should check current access and weather before heading out. This is a place for experienced backcountry users comfortable with self-sufficiency and minimal infrastructure.
