Sampson Mountain Wilderness

Sampson Mountain Wilderness is a 10,896-acre federally designated Wilderness Area in Tennessee, managed by the Forest Service. It offers a primitive backcountry experience built on non-motorized travel through its natural landscape—a place where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore. The wilderness operates under strict federal protection: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted, preserving the area's remoteness and solitude for visitors willing to travel on foot.

If you visit, expect to carry everything you need and follow Leave No Trace principles strictly. Water sources, campsites, and trail conditions vary with season and recent use. Access points and trailhead information are best obtained from the Forest Service before you go.
