Saint Lazaria Wilderness Area

Saint Lazaria Wilderness Area is a 65-acre federally protected Wilderness in Alaska, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This small, remote backcountry preserve offers visitors a chance to experience pristine, undeveloped landscape far from roads and motorized access.

As a designated Wilderness Area, Saint Lazaria is open only to non-motorized travel. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the area. No mechanized travel, mountain bikes, or motors of any kind are permitted. Visitors should expect primitive conditions and come prepared for self-sufficiency; facilities and marked trails are not guaranteed.

Wilderness rules here are strict and non-negotiable. Leave No Trace principles are essential—pack out everything you pack in, camp responsibly, and tread lightly on the landscape. This is backcountry where solitude and ecological integrity are the point. Access is challenging given the remote Alaska location, and the small acreage means capacity is inherently limited.
