Red Mountain Wilderness

Red Mountain Wilderness is a 20,521-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Nevada managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry terrain suited to hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking solitude in an undeveloped landscape. Like all designated Wilderness, the area is closed to motorized vehicles, mechanized travel, and mountain bikes—foot traffic and pack animals are the only means of travel. Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and travel on durable surfaces to protect the land's integrity. Access typically requires driving to trailheads outside the Wilderness boundary, and conditions vary seasonally; late spring through early fall offers the best window for travel, though snow and cold weather can present hazards in winter months. Come prepared for self-sufficiency and minimal infrastructure—this is backcountry, and the lack of maintained facilities is by design.
