Popo Agie Wilderness

Popo Agie Wilderness is a 102,620-acre federally protected backcountry expanse in Wyoming managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive and roadless, open only to non-motorized travel—hiking, backpacking, and foot traffic on established routes. Motorized vehicles, bicycles, and mechanized equipment are prohibited throughout the area.

Visitors come here for backcountry solitude, alpine hiking, and multi-day backpacking expeditions in untrammeled terrain. The wilderness character means minimal infrastructure, no maintained facilities, and genuine remoteness. Access is via trailheads on the periphery; you must hike in under your own power.
