Owens Peak Wilderness Area

Owens Peak Wilderness Area spans 77,240 acres of federally protected backcountry in California, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive country—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come here for backpacking and hiking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and self-reliance define the experience.

The wilderness enforces strict Leave No Trace principles. Pack out everything you pack in, camp only in designated areas where permitted, and travel only on foot. Access points and seasonal conditions vary, so check with the BLM before planning your trip. Spring and fall can bring unpredictable weather; summer is the most reliable season, though water availability may be limited in the high desert environment.
