North Maricopa Mountains Wilderness Area

North Maricopa Mountains Wilderness Area protects nearly 65,000 acres of primitive backcountry in Arizona under federal designation. The landscape is rugged and remote, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a non-motorized wilderness where foot travel and human-powered recreation are the only permitted means of exploration.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary activities here. Visitors come for solitude and the experience of true backcountry—no roads penetrate the area, and mechanized travel of any kind is prohibited.
