North Jackson Mountains Wilderness Area

The North Jackson Mountains Wilderness Area spans 23,449 acres of primitive backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a federally designated Wilderness. This non-motorized landscape offers hikers and backpackers a chance to explore remote terrain on foot, with the solitude and self-reliance that wilderness travel demands.

As a protected Wilderness Area, the landscape is managed to remain wild and undeveloped. No roads, motors, or mechanized travel of any kind are permitted—you move through it by boot and pack alone. This preservation means you'll encounter minimal human infrastructure and encounter the land much as it exists naturally.

Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles: camp away from water sources, pack out all waste, and travel lightly on the land. Access is foot-only, making this a place for those genuinely committed to backcountry travel. Seasonal conditions in the high desert and mountains shift significantly; plan your visit for warmer months when water and weather are most favorable, and expect winter to bring harsh conditions unsuitable for most travelers.
