Munds Mountain Wilderness

Munds Mountain Wilderness is an 18,109-acre federally protected wilderness area in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive setting where motorized travel, mechanized equipment, and roads are prohibited. Visitors come here for solitude and off-trail exploration in a non-motorized landscape.

Access is foot-traffic only. There are no maintained facilities or trailheads within the wilderness boundary itself—entry is typically from surrounding National Forest lands. Leave No Trace principles are essential: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and travel lightly across the terrain. This is genuine wilderness, not a developed recreation area, so self-sufficiency and backcountry experience are expected.
