Mount Tipton Wilderness Area

Mount Tipton Wilderness Area spans nearly 33,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. As a designated Wilderness Area, it remains roadless and motorized use is prohibited—this is primitive country meant for foot traffic and pack animals only. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the landscape; solitude and quiet are core to the experience here.

Visitors should come prepared for true wilderness travel with no mechanized assistance, developed trails, or infrastructure. Leave No Trace principles are essential—pack out everything you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly on the land. Access requires shuttle or private vehicle arrangements to trailheads, and weather, water availability, and isolation demand solid backcountry skills and planning. The remoteness that makes Mount Tipton special also means self-sufficiency is non-negotiable.
