Mount Nutt Wilderness Area

Mount Nutt Wilderness Area spans nearly 28,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive country—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come here to hike and backpack through remote terrain, seeking the solitude and self-reliance that wilderness travel demands.

Access is foot-traffic only. Plan for multi-day backpacking trips and carry everything you need; there are no facilities or developed infrastructure. Follow Leave No Trace principles strictly: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and travel lightly. The landscape and specific conditions vary with season and elevation. Spring and fall typically offer stable weather, while summer heat and winter cold present their own challenges.
