About Mount Irish Wilderness Area

Mount Irish Wilderness Area spans nearly 29,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a designated Wilderness. This is primitive country where motors, mechanized travel, and mountain bikes are prohibited—you'll move on foot or horseback only, and there are no maintained roads or developed infrastructure within the boundary.

The area offers serious backpacking and hiking for visitors comfortable with self-reliance and solitude. You'll navigate remote terrain without crowds or services; navigation by map and compass is essential. All camping is backcountry camping, and Leave No Trace principles are not optional—they're the legal and ethical foundation of wilderness use. Water sources, weather, and route-finding are your responsibility.

Access is seasonal. Spring snowmelt and winter conditions make summer and early fall the practical window for most visitors. Come prepared for isolation, bring all water and supplies, and plan routes carefully. This is not a place for casual day use or first-time backcountry travel.
