Mount Grafton Wilderness Area

Mount Grafton Wilderness Area encompasses nearly 79,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a designated Wilderness. The landscape offers primitive, non-motorized recreation in its truest form—no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel are permitted.

This is a place for hiking and backpacking where solitude and self-reliance define the experience. Visitors should expect rugged terrain and come prepared for genuine wilderness conditions. Access requires leaving vehicles behind and traveling on foot; there are no facilities or maintained infrastructure within the Wilderness boundary.

Wilderness rules are strict and non-negotiable: all travel must be non-motorized and non-mechanized, and Leave No Trace principles are both legal requirement and ethical foundation. Plan for limited water sources, pack out everything you pack in, and come with detailed maps and navigation skills. Spring through fall offers the most stable weather for backcountry travel, though conditions vary by elevation and exposure. Winter travel is possible but demands mountain experience and appropriate gear.
