Mark Trail Wilderness

Mark Trail Wilderness is a 16,618-acre federally protected wilderness area in Georgia, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry experience in a non-motorized, roadless landscape where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore. This is true wilderness—no motors, no mechanical travel, no developed infrastructure—which means solitude and an authentic backcountry encounter, but also full personal responsibility for navigation, safety, and Leave No Trace ethics.

Access requires a short drive to trailhead parking, then foot travel into the backcountry. The terrain is typical of Georgia's forest landscape: rolling woodland with streams and ridgelines. Season matters: late spring through fall is most reliable, though winter can bring wet, muddy conditions. Plan accordingly, carry a map and compass, pack what you bring out, and respect the wilderness designation that keeps this place wild.
