Magic Mountain Wilderness

Magic Mountain Wilderness is a 12,179-acre federally protected wilderness area in California managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive backcountry where motorized travel, mechanized equipment, and developed roads are prohibited. Visitors come for non-motorized recreation: hiking, backpacking, and the solitude that comes with a true wilderness setting.

Access requires foot traffic only. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly on the land. There are no facilities, no maintained infrastructure, and no shortcuts. This is backcountry on its own terms, suited to experienced hikers and backpackers willing to navigate without modern conveniences.

Season depends on weather and snow; spring and fall typically offer ideal conditions, though summer sees the most reliable access. Winter can present serious hazards and may render some routes impassable. Before heading in, check current conditions with the Forest Service, secure any required permits, and prepare for genuine wilderness—self-reliance is essential.
