Lusk Creek Wilderness

Lusk Creek Wilderness is a 6,505-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Illinois, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape offers primitive backcountry suitable for hikers and backpackers seeking solitude away from roads and developed infrastructure.

As a designated Wilderness, the area is closed to motorized equipment, bicycles, and other mechanized travel. All visitors must travel on foot and practice Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and minimize your footprint. Access is foot traffic only, and the experience is defined by quiet, non-motorized exploration of unroaded terrain.

Visit during warmer months when trails are dry and passable. Spring and fall can offer pleasant conditions, though winter weather in Illinois can make backcountry travel difficult. Plan accordingly and check current conditions with the Forest Service before your trip.
