Lewis Fork Wilderness

Lewis Fork Wilderness is a 6,075-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Virginia, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, roadless setting where solitude and untracked landscape are the draw. Like all designated Wilderness, it is off-limits to motorized travel, mechanical equipment, and mountain bikes—foot traffic and horses only. Expect to navigate without maintained trail infrastructure and to practice Leave No Trace ethics: pack out what you pack in, camp on durable surfaces away from water, and treat the land as wild and undeveloped. Access is on foot from trailheads on surrounding National Forest land; plan for spring through fall conditions, with winter weather making travel difficult. This is backcountry travel for those comfortable with navigation, self-sufficiency, and respect for wilderness rules.
