Indian Well Wilderness Area

Indian Well Wilderness Area is a 5,141-acre federally protected Wilderness in New Mexico managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The area offers primitive backcountry experience in a landscape suited to foot travel and self-reliant exploration.

This is true wilderness: no roads, motorized vehicles, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come here to hike, backpack, and experience solitude in a non-motorized setting. The wilderness demands Leave No Trace ethics—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly on the land.

Access is on foot only. Before visiting, confirm current conditions and trailhead access with the managing U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service office.
