Indian Heaven Wilderness

Indian Heaven Wilderness is a 20,783-acre federally protected wilderness area in Washington managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive backcountry terrain suited to foot travel and self-reliance, offering hikers and backpackers the opportunity to experience roadless country on their own terms.

This is true wilderness: no roads, no motorized travel, and no mechanized transport are permitted. Visitors must travel by foot or horse and follow Leave No Trace principles. The wilderness rules exist to preserve the character of the place—solitude, wild landscape, and freedom from development. If you come here, you're accepting those constraints as part of what makes it wild.

Access is seasonal. Spring snowmelt and fall storms shape when the area is safely passable. Plan for summer and early autumn as your reliable window. Bring a map, be self-sufficient, and respect the non-motorized character of the space. This is backcountry travel in the truest sense.
