Highland Ridge Wilderness Area

Highland Ridge Wilderness Area spans nearly 69,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a designated Wilderness. The landscape is primitive and roadless, open only to foot travel and non-motorized use. Visitors come here to hike and backpack in genuine solitude, away from developed infrastructure and mechanical intrusion.

As a federally designated Wilderness, the area is governed by strict non-motorized use rules. No roads, motors, or mechanized travel of any kind are permitted. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and travel lightly across the land. Access is by foot only, and the experience is defined by self-reliance and respect for the primitive character of the place.

Season and access depend on weather and snow cover typical to the Nevada high country. Spring and fall offer pleasant hiking conditions, while winter can bring significant snow and cold. Plan accordingly and check current conditions with the BLM before heading out. This is backcountry travel in the truest sense—come prepared, come self-sufficient, and come ready to leave the wilderness as you found it.
