About Hassayampa River Canyon Wilderness Area

Hassayampa River Canyon Wilderness Area is a 12,201-acre federally protected wilderness in Arizona managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The landscape is defined by river canyon terrain with riparian and desert character. This is primitive backcountry where motorized travel, mechanized equipment, and road access are prohibited—visitors experience the landscape on foot or by pack animal only.

The wilderness offers hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and Leave No Trace ethics are core to the experience. Access is foot-traffic only; there are no maintained roads or developed facilities within the area. Visitors should expect remote canyon hiking with the Hassayampa River as a defining feature and come prepared for self-sufficient travel in a true wilderness environment.
