Harcuvar Mountains Wilderness Area

The Harcuvar Mountains Wilderness Area encompasses roughly 25,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a designated Wilderness. The landscape is primitive and rugged, offering hikers and backpackers genuine solitude and escape from motorized recreation.

Visiting means accepting the core rules of Wilderness: no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel of any kind. This is non-motorized backcountry where foot travel and pack animals are the only options. Visitors are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and leave no trace of your passage.

Access is on foot only. There are no maintained facilities or developed trailheads within the Wilderness proper. Plan for self-sufficient travel and come prepared for primitive conditions. Spring and fall are generally favorable seasons in this region, though conditions vary with elevation and exposure. Check with the Bureau of Land Management for current access conditions and any temporary closures before you go.
