Great Gulf Wilderness

Great Gulf Wilderness is a 5,658-acre federally protected wilderness area in New Hampshire, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive backcountry terrain suited for hikers and backpackers seeking solitude away from developed infrastructure. All motorized and mechanized travel is prohibited—foot travel only.

Visitors should expect genuine wilderness conditions with no maintained roads or facilities within the area. This is Leave No Trace country: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly on the land. Access is typically on foot from nearby trailheads, and seasonal conditions—especially snow and weather in the White Mountains—can be severe outside summer months. Spring and fall are possible but require preparedness for variable conditions.
