About Docs Pass Wilderness Area
Docs Pass Wilderness Area spans 17,208 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive country where motors, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—a true non-motorized wilderness open to foot traffic and stock animals only.
The area offers hiking and backpacking in a quiet, remote setting where solitude is the main draw. Visitors should expect rugged terrain and minimal development; this is backcountry travel that demands self-reliance and navigation skills. There are no maintained facilities or improved trails—you're on your own to find your way.
Wilderness rules apply strictly: pack out all waste, camp only on durable surfaces away from water sources, and follow Leave No Trace principles throughout. Spring and fall offer moderate conditions; summer can be hot, and winter snow and cold may make access difficult. Access typically requires a drive to a trailhead on public lands, followed by foot travel into the wilderness proper. This is a place for experienced backcountry users who thrive in true wild country with no services or shortcuts.
