Coso Range Wilderness Area

Coso Range Wilderness Area is a 52,340-acre federally protected wilderness in California managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This remote backcountry preserve is open to non-motorized travel only—no roads, motors, or mechanized equipment are permitted. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the landscape, offering solitude and genuine wilderness experience to those willing to travel on foot.

Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles and all wilderness regulations. Access is limited to foot traffic, and self-reliance is essential; there are no developed facilities, established trail systems, or services within the wilderness boundary. Spring through fall offers the most viable visiting window, though conditions vary seasonally.
