Chamisso Wilderness Area

Chamisso Wilderness Area is a 418-acre federally protected wilderness in Alaska managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. As a designated Wilderness Area, it remains primitive and roadless—no motors, mechanized travel, or developed infrastructure. Visitors come here for backcountry hiking and backpacking in remote country, seeking solitude and untracked landscape. Access is limited and requires serious planning; this is not a place for casual day trips.

Wilderness rules are strict and non-negotiable: all travel must be on foot, Leave No Trace principles are mandatory, and self-sufficiency is essential. There are no maintained trails, facilities, or services. The Arctic location means a short summer season and extreme weather conditions.
