Castle Creek Wilderness

Castle Creek Wilderness is a 25,458-acre federally protected wilderness area in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry terrain suited to hikers and backpackers seeking solitude away from developed infrastructure. All motorized and mechanized travel is prohibited within the wilderness boundary, preserving the non-motorized character of the landscape.

Visitors should expect rugged terrain and self-sufficient travel. There are no roads or maintained facilities inside the wilderness—access requires foot travel from trailheads outside the boundary. Leave No Trace principles are essential; pack out all waste, camp below timberline where permitted, and travel quietly to minimize impact on the natural environment and wildlife.

Season and access depend on elevation and weather. Spring and fall typically offer stable conditions for backpacking, while summer can bring heat and monsoon activity.
