Blue Range Wilderness

Blue Range Wilderness is a 29,106-acre federally protected wilderness area in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized environment where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

The wilderness enforces strict rules reflecting its protected status: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel of any kind are permitted. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles and come prepared for true backcountry conditions. Access requires travel on foot, and you'll need to plan your own route and camp spots. Water sources, trail conditions, and other logistics are your responsibility to research before heading out.

Season your visit for spring through fall when weather is most favorable. Winter conditions can make travel difficult and dangerous. Come self-sufficient and respect the wilderness designation—it exists to preserve a landscape free from development and mechanical intrusion.
