Big Rocks Wilderness Area

Big Rocks Wilderness Area is a 12,966-acre federally protected wilderness in Nevada managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive backcountry where motors, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—a place for nonmotorized exploration and genuine solitude.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the landscape. The wilderness welcomes those seeking quiet immersion in undeveloped terrain, away from developed infrastructure. Like all federal wilderness areas, Big Rocks operates under Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel on foot or horseback only.

Access is trailhead-dependent and seasonal. Winter conditions in Nevada's high desert can be severe, while spring through fall generally offers the best window for safe travel. Before heading out, check current conditions with the BLM and verify trailhead access, as remote wilderness areas can have limited or weather-dependent entry points.
