Big Horn Mountains Wilderness Area spans over 21,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the landscape. Visiting means embracing true wilderness conditions: no roads penetrate the area, motors and mechanized equipment are prohibited, and you are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles. Access is on foot or horseback only. Plan for self-sufficiency—water sources, seasonal conditions, and route-finding are your responsibility.
