Apache Kid Wilderness

Apache Kid Wilderness is a 44,678-acre federally protected wilderness area in New Mexico managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking across primitive terrain where motorized travel and mechanized transport are prohibited. Visitors should expect genuine solitude and self-reliance; this is non-motorized country where Leave No Trace principles are both required and essential to the wilderness experience.

Access is foot-traffic only. Plan for spring through fall visits when conditions are most favorable. Winter presents serious hazards. Come prepared for remote travel, carry all water and supplies, and respect the wilderness designation—no roads, no motors, no shortcuts.
